Who ships from Jeddah to Lithuania, and what do they send?

The lane between Jeddah and Lithuania is small when set beside the German or Dutch lanes, but the people on it know what they want. Most are traders sending palletised goods to an importer in Vilnius or Kaunas, or returning a part to its factory. After them come students from the Kingdom and from the communities living in Jeddah who study at the universities of the two largest cities, families relocating for work, and Lithuanians who have finished their contracts and are going home with a whole household. Each has a shipping method that fits and a different standing before Lithuanian customs:

Shipper What they send Best method Standing at Lithuanian customs
A trader or factory in Jeddah Palletised goods and samples Part load or a container, air for urgent items Duty by tariff heading and 21% tax
A Lithuanian who has finished working in the Kingdom Furniture, appliances and household items A 20ft or shared container Transfer-of-residence relief
A family relocating for work or study Personal effects and selected pieces Shared container The relief, once the residence permit is issued
A student in Kaunas or Vilnius Books, winter clothes and room items Cartons by sea and a suitcase by air Relief for study materials
A family sending to a son or relative Dates, coffee, clothes and gifts Air parcel Small gift, or tax on the value
A car owner A car for residence or for sale RoRo or a closed container Duty and tax, or the mover’s relief

What does an international shipping company do on the Jeddah – Lithuania lane?

An international shipping company seldom owns the ship or the aircraft; its job is to join the links of the journey into one contract. On this lane in particular a shipment passes through at least four parties: a haulier inside Jeddah, an ocean line to the North Sea, a feeder vessel to the Baltic, and a Lithuanian agent who clears and delivers. We book the space, prepare the export papers, pick the hub port from the schedule and follow up with the agent until the delivery receipt is signed.

Understanding that role helps you with cost, time and safety: a price that covers the whole journey, a schedule that shortens the wait at the intermediate port, and one party to claim against if damage occurs. Every type of service is on the shipping services page.

The route from Jeddah to Lithuania and how long it takes

The sea route to Lithuania has two legs rather than one, and that is what sets it apart from shipping to Mediterranean ports. The large vessel leaves Jeddah northbound, passes through the Suez Canal, the Mediterranean and the Strait of Gibraltar, then climbs along the Atlantic coast to a hub port on the North Sea. There the container is discharged and waits for a smaller feeder vessel that passes the Danish straits into the Baltic and berths at Klaipeda. The stages of a private container are as follows:

Stage What happens Usual time
Loading in Jeddah Packing, numbering, inventory and sealing the container One day
Jeddah Islamic Port Export declaration and waiting for the vessel 3–6 days
Sailing to the North Sea Red Sea, Suez, Mediterranean, Atlantic 14–20 days
Hub port and feeder vessel Change of vessel, then sailing to Klaipeda 5–8 days
Clearance at Klaipeda Import declaration and the relief claim or payment of what is due 2–4 working days
Delivery inside Lithuania Lorry from the port to the address 1–2 days

The shipping method changes the sums. A few pallets wait for the consolidation container to fill in Jeddah and are then sorted on arrival, a car follows the vehicle-carrier schedule, and an urgent sample flies the same day. The times below run from the shipper’s door in Jeddah to the consignee’s door:

Method Route Time from Jeddah Suits
Private container Jeddah port → hub port → Klaipeda 28–40 days A whole home and wholesale goods
Shared container Consolidated in Jeddah and sorted near the arrival port 34–45 days A few pallets, cartons and one room of furniture
RoRo for cars Jeddah port → a vehicle port in northern Europe, then a transporter 30–45 days A running car
Air King Abdulaziz Airport → transit airport → Vilnius 4–7 days Samples, parcels and documents

What lengthens the time?

  • A missed feeder: if the large vessel runs a day late, the container may wait for the next sailing into the Baltic.
  • The Cape of Good Hope route: when the lines stay away from the Red Sea, the voyage grows by two weeks or more. We tell you the actual routing on the day of booking.
  • Winter storms: the port of Klaipeda does not freeze, but strong Baltic winds stop cargo handling for hours or days.
  • Paperwork: an import declaration without the importer number or the residence permit keeps the container in the yard.
  • The Hajj season: Jeddah’s port and airport are congested, so we book the space further ahead.

Times for the other destinations are on the transit times page.

Sea freight from Jeddah to the Baltic port of Klaipeda

Sea freight from Jeddah to the Baltic port of Klaipeda

Klaipeda is the only seaport in Lithuania and sits on its short western coast at the mouth of the Curonian Lagoon. It is the northernmost port on the eastern Baltic whose waters do not freeze, so it works all year. Its container terminals connect to the motorway running east to Kaunas and Vilnius, and to a railway line that carries containers to the intermodal terminal near Kaunas. A container from Jeddah Islamic Port is shipped there on a single bill of lading, 20ft or 40ft, and the change of vessel on the way is handled by the shipping line.

Mainline vessels coming up from the Red Sea do not normally enter the Baltic, because they are larger than its ports require. The container is therefore discharged at a hub port and continues on a feeder vessel carrying a few hundred boxes. Between Hamburg and Klaipeda alone there are several regular container services, and the passage takes two to four days depending on the number of ports on the way. We choose the hub port from the week’s schedule, not from fixed habit:

Hub port Location When we choose it
Hamburg Northern Germany on the River Elbe The most used, for its many feeders to Klaipeda
Bremerhaven Germany’s North Sea coast When the available Jeddah service calls there, and for cars
Rotterdam The Netherlands For shared containers sorted in its warehouses
Gdansk Poland, inside the Baltic When the large vessel itself enters the Baltic on certain services

A 20ft container holds about 28 cubic metres, that is the contents of a two-bedroom flat or ten standard pallets in a single layer. A 40ft container holds roughly twice that. We bring the empty container from the port yard to your warehouse or home in Jeddah, and it is sealed after loading and returned the same day. The service is explained on the sea freight page, the dimensions on the container sizes page, and what goes on inside the port in the article international sea freight from Jeddah.

Shipping prices from Jeddah to Lithuania

Each kind of shipment has its own unit of charge. Air goes by the kilogram of chargeable weight, part load by the cubic metre, a private container at a flat rate, and a car by its class. We price Lithuania at the rates for northern and western Europe, because the difference between it and Hamburg is the short feeder passage. Home Safe prices from Jeddah start from the following figures:

What you ship Method Price starts from
Documents Express SAR 83
A parcel of up to 5 kg Air to Vilnius SAR 110
Parcels, samples and suitcases Air from King Abdulaziz Airport SAR 23 per kilogram
Furniture and personal effects Shared container to Klaipeda SAR 5,500
A whole home or wholesale goods Private container SAR 11,000
Saloon car RoRo to a European vehicle port SAR 2,800
Moving the car from the arrival port to Lithuania Car transporter Set on request
Commercial pallets Part load by the cubic metre Set on request by number and weight

Market prices for this lane are almost absent, and no Arabic page quotes a figure for shipping to Lithuania specifically. What is published is general figures for international shipping from the Kingdom: about SAR 40 per kilogram for business accounts, about SAR 120 for an individual’s small shipment, and a minimum of around SAR 250 for a parcel by express courier. Containers and pallets carry no published price at all, since it shifts with every sailing schedule. The figures in our table are starting prices, and we send you the final price once we know the volume and the address.

What sets the price Its effect on a Lithuania shipment
Volume and weight The cubic metre by sea and chargeable weight by air. Try the CBM calculator
The hub port A service with one change of vessel is cheaper and quicker than one with two
Delivery city Klaipeda is at the port, Vilnius at the other end of the country
Scope of service To the quay at Klaipeda, or to the door with clearance
Type of goods Ordinary cargo: not hazardous, not refrigerated, not out of gauge
Season Late summer as students travel, and the run-up to the year end for traders

How do you bring the cost down?

  • Book early: space reserved four weeks before sailing is cheaper than last-minute space.
  • Ship with others: part load splits the container charge among several shippers, so you pay for your own volume only.
  • Ask for a repeat rate: anyone shipping monthly or quarterly gets a better price than a one-off consignment.
  • Compare items, not totals: ask each company what its price covers, then set like against like.

The pricing factors page sets out what makes up the price, and the article container shipping prices from Jeddah gives what a container costs as it leaves the port.

What sets shipping from Jeddah to Lithuania apart?

A shipper in Jeddah starts from the port through which most of the Kingdom’s Europe-bound containers leave, so there is no long inland haul before the sea. The airport is in the same city, and a sample handed over at noon enters the air cargo warehouse that day.

  • Close to the port: the container is loaded and gated in on the same day from most districts of the city.
  • The climate gap: the cargo moves from Jeddah’s humidity and heat to the Baltic cold, so we fit desiccants that stop water condensing inside the container.
  • Lorry hours: some roads and districts set times for large lorries to enter, and we agree the slot in advance.
  • Umrah pilgrims’ purchases: we collect them from hotels and flats before the flight home.

A fuller picture of shipping from the city is in the article international shipping companies in Jeddah.

Shipping commercial goods on pallets and personal effects from Jeddah to Lithuania

Shipping commercial goods on pallets and personal effects from Jeddah to Lithuania

Two kinds of shipment share most of the containers leaving for Lithuania: a trader’s goods stacked on pallets, and personal effects in numbered cartons. The two are prepared in different ways. A pallet is built so that the forklift can lift it from any side: its cartons are interlocked, strapped and wrapped in clear film, and its number and weight are written on its face. Personal effects are wrapped piece by piece, and each carton carries a number matching a line in the inventory.

Item Commercial goods on pallets Numbered personal effects
Preparation Treated wooden pallet, strapping and film Double-wall cartons and blankets for furniture
Weight By the pallet’s load rating and height No carton above 25 kg
Identification A label with the pallet number, the count and the consignee A number on every piece and a valued list
Documents Invoice, packing list and certificate of origin Passport, residence permit and inventory
Lithuanian customs Duty for the heading and 21% tax The mover’s or student’s relief, on its conditions

Securing the load inside the container is half the work. A container for Klaipeda is lifted at least four times because of the change of vessel, and it crosses the North Sea, one of the roughest seas in winter. So we fill the gaps with air bags, brace the last row with timber, and strap the pallets to the rings in the floor and walls. The method is on the packing and lashing page.

Shipping commercial goods and samples to Lithuania

What Jeddah’s traders export to Lithuania is varied and mostly in small quantities: dates and dry foodstuffs for community shops, plastics and petrochemical materials for factories, perfumes, incense and textiles, and samples ahead of a deal. Commercial goods enter on a full import declaration lodged by a Lithuanian broker in the importer’s name. Lithuania applies the common European tariff, so the duty follows the heading of the goods, and 21% value added tax is added on the value including freight and duty.

  • Importer number: the European economic operator number is a condition for opening the declaration.
  • Conformity: appliances, toys and cosmetics have European requirements and a technical file.
  • Foodstuffs: a label in the national language and a registered importer, and they may be checked at the border control post.
  • Onward to the neighbours: goods bound for Latvia or Estonia are cleared at Klaipeda and then continue by road inside the Union.

The service is explained on the commercial shipping page.

Shipping household furniture from Jeddah to Lithuania

Before you ship your household furniture to Lithuania, ask about the home you will live in there. Flats in Vilnius and Kaunas are mostly smaller than flats in Jeddah, and many are in older blocks with a narrow staircase and a lift for two people. So we begin with a list: what is shipped, what is sold in Jeddah, and what can be bought there for less than the cost of shipping it.

  • Wood: it moves from humid air to dry, heated homes, so we wrap it in material that lets it breathe and keeps it from cracking.
  • Dismantling and numbering: the fixings of every dismantled piece go into a bag carrying its number.
  • Glass and marble: in treated wooden crates marked with the carrying direction.
  • Air conditioners: of little use in Lithuania’s climate, and the freight costs more than they are worth.
  • Winter delivery: snow and ice slow the unloading, so we cover the pieces between the lorry and the entrance.

Details of the service are on the furniture shipping page.

Transfer-of-residence relief in Lithuania

Anyone moving their normal residence to Lithuania from a country outside the European Union brings in personal property free of customs duty and value added tax, provided the conditions of Lithuanian customs are met. The relief is claimed in writing with the import declaration and is not granted automatically. This is the practice currently applied, and we confirm what is in force before shipping because its application may change:

Condition or document Detail
Previous residence At least 12 continuous months outside the European Union
Use of the belongings At least six months at the former place of residence
Residence permit Lithuanian and valid for at least 12 months
Import deadline Within 12 months of receiving the permit
Proof of residence in the Kingdom An employment contract, a tenancy agreement, utility bills or school records
The list and the application An itemised list of the belongings and a written application for relief
After entry Not lent, pledged, hired out or sold for 12 months without notifying customs
What it does not cover Alcohol, tobacco, commercial vehicles and non-portable tools of trade

Anyone sending belongings before settling in Lithuania may be asked for a financial security with customs until residence is established. The safer course is for the owner to arrive first and obtain the permit, with the container landing two or three weeks later.

Private container or shared container?

On a lane as long as this one the difference between the two options shows more than elsewhere. A shared container is opened and sorted twice, at the consolidation warehouse and at the arrival warehouse, which adds roughly a week but makes shipping possible for someone with two pallets or twenty cartons. A private container is sealed in Jeddah and stays closed until Klaipeda, and it becomes cheaper per cubic metre once the volume approaches half a container.

Comparison Private container Shared container
Who it suits A whole home or ten pallets and more A few pallets, cartons and one room of furniture
Time to the door 28–40 days 34–45 days
Price starts from SAR 11,000 SAR 5,500
The seal Broken only before the consignee or customs Shipments are sorted at the arrival warehouse
Packing needed Ordinary and sturdy Stronger, because of the extra handling

Shipping parcels, gifts and students’ belongings

A small parcel to Lithuania is mostly ordered by a student’s family, or by a resident sending a gift to relatives there. The European rule currently applied relieves a small gift sent from one private person to another up to a value of about 45 euros, while anything above that, or anything bought from a shop, has value added tax collected on it. The rules for low-value parcels in the European Union are changing, so we confirm what is in force before shipping.

  • The student’s suitcase: by air to Vilnius, then to Kaunas by road the next day.
  • Winter clothing: coats and heavy boots are sent by sea before autumn, as the cold starts early.
  • Dates and coffee: in sealed packs and in personal quantities.
  • Perfumes and oud oil: flammable liquids, with a set quantity and packaging by air.
  • Zamzam water: not shipped as cargo.

The service is explained on the parcel shipping page.

Car shipping from Jeddah to Lithuania

A car leaves Jeddah Islamic Port in one of two ways. In the first it is driven onto a RoRo vessel and lashed uncovered on an inner deck, with the fare from SAR 2,800 for a saloon to a vehicle port in northern Europe; a car transporter then takes it on to Lithuania at a charge set on request. In the second it is secured by its wheels inside a closed container that reaches Klaipeda itself, which suits a valuable car and anyone shipping household effects with it.

Item Practice in Lithuania
Customs duty 10% for a passenger car under the European tariff
Value added tax 21% on the value including freight and duty
Mover’s relief Covers a private car used for six months or more, on the relief conditions
Conformity A European certificate of conformity or alternative documents the registration body accepts
Roadworthiness test At an approved testing centre before registration
Registration With the vehicle registration enterprise, with compulsory insurance
Registration fee On passenger cars with high emissions; electric cars are exempt

A car built for the Gulf market usually carries no European certificate of conformity, and that is the first hurdle its owner should ask about, ahead of the sea freight. Send us the chassis number and year of manufacture, and we ask the agent what the Lithuanian registration body accepts. The general conditions are in the article car shipping from Saudi Arabia, and the two methods on the RoRo shipping and container car shipping pages.

Packing and special packing before shipping to Lithuania

Packing for a journey of more than a month with a change of vessel is not like packing for a move across town. The air inside the container cools as it heads north, so its vapour condenses on the roof. We therefore choose materials for the journey, not for the piece alone:

  • Double-wall cartons: for books, kitchenware and clothes, at a weight one man can carry.
  • Shock-proof packing: foam, dividers and bubble film for glass, screens and ornaments.
  • Waterproof packing: sealed bags and plastic film for fabrics, mattresses and papers.
  • Wooden crates: for precision machines, marble and paintings, in treated and stamped timber.
  • Desiccants: bags hung inside the container and sized to the length of the voyage.

The full method is in the packing guide.

Documents required and customs clearance in Lithuania

Three papers carry a commercial shipment from Jeddah to Lithuania, and each answers a question. The commercial invoice says what the goods are and what they cost, and duty and tax are worked out on it. The bill of lading says who sent, who receives and on which vessel, and it is the title to the goods on the way. The certificate of origin says where they were made, and the duty may change with it. A wrong number or name in any of them is enough to delay release, so we check them before the container is sealed.

Document What it contains Who issues it
Commercial invoice Description, quantity and price of each item and the delivery term The seller or shipper
Packing list Number of pallets and cartons with their weights and dimensions The shipper
Bill of lading Shipper, consignee, container number and the ports of loading and discharge We do, for the shipping line
Certificate of origin Country of manufacture, certified by the chamber of commerce The shipper through the chamber
Export declaration The record of the goods leaving the Kingdom Our broker in Jeddah
Personal inventory Each carton, its contents and its used value The owner, with our help
Passport and residence permit For the owner of personal effects and the relief claimant The owner of the shipment

A wider list is on the shipping documents page.

Clearance happens twice: for export at Jeddah’s port or airport, and for import before Lithuanian customs at Klaipeda or at Vilnius airport. Lithuania is in the European customs union, so whatever is released there then moves between the member states with no further customs. What is due is paid before the goods leave the yard.

  • Duty: by the European tariff heading, and many goods carry a low rate or none.
  • Tax: mostly 21%, with reduced rates for some goods.
  • Free days: a container has a limited number of days in the yard, then daily storage charges.

The stages are explained on the customs clearance page.

What cannot be shipped to Lithuania or needs a permit

We go through the contents of the shipment before packing, because one offending item halts a container that also holds other people’s goods if it is a shared one. What is banned or restricted comes from three sources: European Union rules, Lithuanian law, and the safety rules of sea and air transport.

Item Status
Meat, dairy and their products Banned from outside the European Union, even in a small quantity
Plants, seeds and soil With a plant-health certificate
Medicines For personal use only, with a prescription
Weapons and ammunition Banned without a prior licence
Tobacco and alcohol Outside the relief and subject to excise; we do not ship them
Counterfeit goods Seized and destroyed
Products of protected species With an endangered-species convention permit
Cash, gold and jewellery Not shipped within belongings
Batteries, gases and paints Dangerous goods, with a special declaration and packaging

The general list is on the prohibited items page.

Delivering shipments from Jeddah in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda

Delivering shipments from Jeddah in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda

Lithuania is a small country, and a single motorway crosses it from the coast to the capital by way of Kaunas. A lorry that leaves the port of Klaipeda in the morning delivers in Kaunas before noon and in Vilnius after it. A consignee in Klaipeda itself receives on the day of release. Delivery to the door covers unloading the shipment at the address, and carrying furniture up to the floor and assembling it if the quotation says so.

City Distance from Klaipeda Who ships there Delivery note
Vilnius About 310 km Companies, students and families, and the air cargo airport The old town has narrow streets, so delivery is by a small vehicle
Kaunas About 215 km Medical and engineering students and distribution warehouses An inland container terminal on the railway
Klaipeda Inside the city Importers and the warehouses of the free zone Delivery on the day of release
Siauliai About 160 km Factories and shops in the north A direct road from the port
Panevezys About 240 km Industrial firms and wholesalers Delivery the day after release
Palanga About 30 km A seaside resort and seasonal homes The summer season is busy

Alytus, Marijampole and the smaller towns and villages are served as well. How the service runs is set out on the door-to-door shipping page.

Services for individuals and companies, and the extras

The core shipment is carriage from Jeddah to Lithuania, and around it are services that some customers need and others do not. We list them in the quotation as separate items, so you pick what you need and leave the rest:

  • Individuals and families: a survey at home or from photographs, packing and numbering, and a review of the relief papers.
  • Companies and traders: regular bookings, export clearance, a tax invoice and urgent sample shipping.
  • Temporary storage: in a closed warehouse in Jeddah before shipping, or with the agent in Lithuania if the home is not yet available.
  • Additional insurance: all-risks cover for valuable pieces at their declared value.
  • Special packing: wooden crates and vacuum packing for machines and sensitive pieces.

Details of storage are on the storage page.

Air freight from Jeddah to Lithuania

Air freight from Jeddah to Lithuania

Air freight is the route for samples, urgent parcels, documents and the spare part a job is waiting on. The shipment is handed in at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and flies to a transit airport and then to Vilnius airport, the leading international airport in Lithuania. We do not rely on a direct flight between the two cities; the connection is made through a hub airport such as Istanbul, according to the week’s schedule. The consignee receives it in Vilnius within 4 to 7 days, and in Kaunas and Klaipeda a day later. The price starts from SAR 23 per kilogram and falls as the weight rises.

Item Detail
Departure airport King Abdulaziz International Airport, Jeddah
Arrival airport Vilnius; Kaunas and Palanga are the country’s other two airports
Routing Mostly a flight with one transit
Time to the door 4–7 days in Vilnius
How it is charged The greater of actual weight and volumetric weight
Price starts from SAR 23 per kilogram, documents from SAR 83 and a parcel of up to 5 kg from SAR 110
Not accepted by air Loose lithium batteries, aerosols, perfumes in bulk and flammable materials

Express is a class within air freight: an envelope or small parcel that travels on the first flight, is cleared on a simplified declaration and is delivered by hand, which is what someone waiting for a contract or a sample before a meeting chooses. Work out your parcel’s chargeable weight with the volumetric weight calculator. Details of the service are on the air freight page, and how the office works is in the article air freight office in Jeddah.

Sea or air, and is there land freight to Lithuania?

Two questions settle the choice: how much does the consignment weigh, and when do you need it? Anything under roughly a hundred kilograms with a near deadline goes by air. Anything measured in cubic metres that can bear five weeks goes by sea.

  • Sea: 28–45 days, by the cubic metre or the container, and the cheapest for large volume.
  • Air: 4–7 days, by the kilogram, and the best fit for light and urgent items.
  • Land: we do not offer it from Jeddah. The lorry works only at the end of the journey, from the port or airport to the address inside Lithuania.

The detailed comparison is on the shipping methods comparison page.

Collection from Jeddah’s districts and nearby towns

The crew comes to wherever the shipment is, be it a home, a warehouse, a factory or a hotel. Commercial goods are loaded from the warehouse dock by forklift, and personal effects are packed where they stand and then moved.

Area Districts and towns Note
North Jeddah Obhur, Ash Shati, Al Mohammadiyah, Al Basateen, Az Zahra Villas and compounds, with the container at the door
Central Jeddah Ar Rawdah, As Salamah, Al Hamra, Al Andalus, Al Aziziyah Apartment blocks, so the lift and parking are booked
East Jeddah As Safa, Al Marwah, An Naseem, Ar Rehab, As Samer Close to the Haramain road
South Jeddah The industrial area, Al Khumrah, As Sanabel, Al Balad Factories, warehouses and pallet loading
Nearby towns Makkah, Taif, Rabigh, Thuwal, Al Lith The haul to Jeddah is added

The cities we serve in the Kingdom are on the shipping cities page.

Steps for shipping from Jeddah to Lithuania

  1. The request: you send a description of the shipment, its photographs and the Lithuanian city by WhatsApp to 0552803439.
  2. The price: we work out the volume or weight and send you an itemised price showing what it covers and what it does not.
  3. The papers: we check the invoice and certificate of origin, or the relief papers for the owner of personal effects.
  4. Preparation: stacking on pallets or packing and numbering, and writing the packing list.
  5. Loading: into a container at your door, to the consolidation warehouse or to the airport.
  6. Export: the export declaration at Jeddah Islamic Port, then the container number and the bill of lading.
  7. Clearance in Lithuania: the agent lodges the declaration at Klaipeda or Vilnius and tells you what is due.
  8. Delivery: a lorry to the address, a check against the list and a signature for receipt.

Tracking, insuring and checking the shipment on receipt

Tracking a Lithuania container has its own quirk: the number is one but the vessel changes. On the shipping line’s website you see the container on the large vessel as far as the hub port, then the name of the feeder vessel appears with its arrival date at Klaipeda. We send you a notice at every handover until release and the delivery date. An air shipment is followed by its air waybill number on the carrier’s website.

Insurance is bought before loading, not after the damage. It is worked out as a percentage of the declared value, and in its all-risks form it covers breakage, wetting and loss from the sender’s door to the consignee’s. Without it the compensation stays a sum tied to weight, set by the bill of lading. Details are on the shipment tracking and cargo insurance pages.

We estimate the delivery date on the day of booking and confirm it after the container leaves the hub port, because the feeder schedule is what fixes the day. When the lorry arrives, do not sign before you have gone over what has come:

  • The count: match the pallet and carton numbers against the list before the lorry leaves.
  • The outside: look over the cartons and film for any hole, damp patch or dent.
  • The remark: write what you see on the delivery note itself, and photograph it before opening the carton.
  • The deadline: hidden damage is reported in writing within the few days set by the insurance policy.

Shipping from Lithuania to Jeddah

The opposite direction works the same way in reverse. Lithuania exports wooden furniture and timber products, food and dairy, and equipment, lasers and electronics. The agent collects the goods from the factory, the container is loaded at Klaipeda for a hub port and then Jeddah Islamic Port, and urgent cargo comes by air to King Abdulaziz Airport.

  • In the Kingdom: customs duty by type of goods and 15% value added tax.
  • Foodstuffs: registration and inspection with the food and drug authority, and a halal certificate where required.

Tips before shipping from Jeddah to Lithuania

  • Count back from the date you need the shipment, and add a week in reserve for the change of vessel.
  • Make sure the Lithuanian importer has obtained the European number before the container is loaded.
  • Write the invoice and packing list in English, with descriptions a customs officer will understand.

How do you choose a shipping company from Jeddah to Lithuania?

Three things are weighed when choosing: the price and what it covers, the company’s reputation and legal standing, and how easily you reach someone who answers. On a rare lane like Lithuania a fourth is added: does the company actually know the route? The answer shows in the detail of what it says before you pay:

What you ask about A reassuring answer A worrying answer
The price Itemised, to the door or to the port A single figure with no word on what it covers
The route Names the hub port and Klaipeda “To Europe, then we shall see”
Legal standing A commercial registration, a contract and a collection receipt A transfer to a personal account
Customs Asks for the importer number or the residence permit “There is no customs on anything”
Communication A fixed number and a person following your file No reply once the deposit is received
The time A realistic range that mentions the change of vessel “Two weeks and it is with you” by sea

Common mistakes when shipping from Jeddah to Lithuania

  • Working out the time on sailing days alone and forgetting the intermediate port and the feeder vessel.
  • Shipping commercial goods to a consignee who has not obtained the European importer number.
  • The container arriving before its owner and before the residence permit.
  • Using wooden pallets that are neither treated nor stamped.
  • Writing a value below the true one on the invoice, which forfeits the right to compensation and gets the shipment opened.
  • Putting cheese, dried meat or ghee among the kitchen items.
  • Signing for receipt before counting the pieces and checking their outside.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Jeddah to Lithuania

How long does shipping from Jeddah to Lithuania take?

A private container reaches its address in Lithuania 28 to 40 days after it is loaded in Jeddah, and a shared container takes 34 to 45 days. That covers the voyage to a hub port on the North Sea, the feeder vessel to Klaipeda, then clearance and delivery. An air shipment is handed over in Vilnius within 4 to 7 days.

How much does shipping from Jeddah to Lithuania cost?

An air kilogram starts from SAR 23, an urgent document envelope from SAR 83 and a parcel of up to 5 kg from SAR 110. By sea, furniture in a shared container starts from SAR 5,500, a private container from SAR 11,000 and a saloon car by RoRo to a European port from SAR 2,800. The final figure follows the volume and the delivery city.

Does the ship sail from Jeddah to Klaipeda directly?

Usually not. Mainline vessels coming up from the Red Sea end their voyage at the big North Sea ports, where the container is moved to a smaller feeder vessel that enters the Baltic and berths at Klaipeda two to four days later. There is a single bill of lading from Jeddah to Klaipeda, so you never deal with the intermediate port yourself.

Why Klaipeda and not another port?

Because it is the only seaport in Lithuania, its waters do not freeze in winter, and its container terminals are tied to the motorway and the railway to Kaunas and Vilnius. Clearance there is done directly with Lithuanian customs, so the shipment does not cross another country’s border under a transit declaration. In a few cases we suggest a neighbouring port if its schedule is closer.

Will I pay customs on my used belongings in Lithuania?

Someone transferring residence pays neither duty nor tax on personal belongings when the conditions currently applied are met: 12 months or more of continuous residence outside the European Union, belongings used for at least six months, a Lithuanian residence permit, and import within 12 months. Anyone else pays the duty for the item and 21% value added tax. We review your position before booking.

Which documents do I need to ship to Lithuania?

For personal belongings: a passport copy, the Lithuanian residence permit or visa, a detailed valued inventory, and proof of your previous residence in the Kingdom if you claim the relief. For commercial goods: a commercial invoice, a packing list, a certificate of origin and the consignee’s European importer number. We issue the bill of lading ourselves at loading.

Do you ship commercial goods on pallets to Lithuania?

Yes. A single pallet or a few pallets travel as part load in a consolidation container, and a large quantity takes a 20ft or 40ft container. We stack the cartons on treated wooden pallets, strap and wrap them, and secure them inside the container with lashing straps and timber bracing. The Lithuanian importer needs the European economic operator number before the vessel arrives.

Do you ship a car from Jeddah to Lithuania?

Yes, in two ways. A RoRo vessel carries a running car to a vehicle port in northern Europe, with the fare from SAR 2,800 for a saloon, and it then completes the journey to Lithuania on a transporter. Or the car is lashed inside a closed container that reaches Klaipeda itself. In Lithuania there is 10% duty and 21% tax unless the mover’s relief covers it, then a roadworthiness test and registration.

Do you ship students’ belongings to Kaunas and Vilnius?

Yes. Both cities have universities that attract students from outside Europe, particularly for medicine and engineering. The first-week suitcase flies to Vilnius, while books, heavy winter clothing and room items are sent in numbered cartons by sea well ahead of the start of term. We deliver to the hall of residence or the flat.

Can dates, coffee and spices be shipped to Lithuania?

Dates, coffee, cardamom and dry spices in sealed packs can be sent in personal quantities, and dates are exempt from the plant-health certificate under the European rules currently applied. Anything containing meat, milk or ghee, or honey in large quantities, is banned or restricted on entry from outside the European Union. We go through the items with you before the carton is sealed.

Will my electrical appliances work in Lithuania?

The voltage in Lithuania is 230 V, as it is in the Kingdom, and the difference lies in two things: the frequency there is 50 Hz, and the socket is the European type with two round pins. A phone, a computer and a monitor need only a plug adaptor. For any appliance with a motor, such as a washing machine, check its label before shipping it.

Is there land freight from Jeddah to Lithuania?

We do not offer a continuous overland route from Jeddah to Lithuania, as the distance crosses many countries and border posts whose conditions are not stable. The lorry comes in only at the end of the journey: from the port of Klaipeda or Vilnius airport to the consignee’s address, or from a port in northern Europe to Lithuania when a car arrives by RoRo.

Does the price include clearance and delivery in Lithuania?

It includes both when you choose the door-to-door service, and the quotation lists the Lithuanian broker’s fee and the lorry charge to the address item by item. Customs duty and value added tax are sums owed to the Lithuanian treasury, paid if they fall due, and they are not part of the freight charge with us or with anyone else.

Do you offer temporary storage before shipping or after arrival?

Yes. In Jeddah we keep the belongings in a closed warehouse until the paperwork is ready or the sailing date comes, which helps anyone who hands back the house before travelling. In Lithuania the agent arranges short storage if the container lands before the home is available.

Do you ship from Lithuania to Jeddah?

Yes. The agent collects from the factory or warehouse in any Lithuanian city, and the container is loaded at Klaipeda for Jeddah Islamic Port through a hub port, while urgent cargo comes by air to King Abdulaziz Airport. The usual cargo is wooden furniture and timber products, food and dairy, and equipment. In the Kingdom the goods attract duty according to their type and 15% value added tax.
