Sea route: Jeddah Islamic Port → Suez Canal → Mediterranean → Gibraltar → English Channel → Rotterdam · Time: 25–33 days door to door for a full container, and 3–6 days by air.

In brief

  • Methods: sea and air only; there is no land freight we rely on to the Netherlands.
  • Exit point: the port and the airport are inside Jeddah, so there is no inland haul between two cities.
  • Time: 25–33 days for a full container, 30–38 days for a part load, and 3–6 days by air.
  • Lowest prices: documents from SAR 83, an air kilogram from SAR 23, a sea part load from SAR 5,500, and a house container from SAR 11,000.
  • Customs: someone moving residence is exempt with a Dutch permit issued before the shipment arrives; others pay 21% tax.
  • Delivery: to the door in Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Groningen and every Dutch city.
  • Booking: 0552803439 by call or WhatsApp.

Who ships from Jeddah to the Netherlands, and what do they ship?

Jeddah is a city of port and trade, and the Netherlands is likewise a country of port and trade, so most of what moves between them is merchandise before it is baggage. Jeddah’s traders send dates, foodstuffs and perfumes to Dutch distributors, engineers from Dutch companies working in ports and marine works go home with their households when their contracts end, and researchers from the university at Thuwal move to the universities of Delft and Eindhoven. Each of these has a different shipping method and a different status before Dutch Customs:

Shipper What they ship Best method Status at Dutch Customs
Trader and exporter Dates, foodstuffs, perfumes and factory products Full container, or pallets in a part load Duty by tariff heading and tax, in the name of a registered importer
Dutch national returning from work in Jeddah Household furniture, appliances and a car 20ft or 40ft container Transfer-of-residence relief with a prior permit
Saudi or resident moving for work Family baggage and some furniture Part-load sea freight The same relief if its conditions are met
Student and researcher Books, winter clothes and room items Cartons by air, or in a shared container Study belongings exempt with proof of admission
Car owner A running or classic car RoRo or container Duty and two taxes, or within the relief
Consulate and government body Documents, staff baggage and exhibits Air for documents, and sea for baggage According to the consignee’s status

The shipping route from Jeddah to the Netherlands and its duration

A Jeddah shipment skips an entire stage that others pay for: the road to the sea. The container is loaded at your home in the morning and is at the port gate before noon. What remains after that is five stages, the longest of which is the sailing. When we quote you a time, we count it from the loading day in Jeddah to the unloading day at the Dutch home, not the vessel’s days alone. These are the stages of a full container:

Stage What happens Usual time
Loading in Jeddah Dismantling, packing, numbering and inventory, then sealing the container 1–2 days
Entering Jeddah Islamic Port The container moves within the same city The same day
Export and waiting for the vessel Export declaration and handing the container to the shipping line 3–5 days
Sailing Suez, then the Mediterranean, then Gibraltar, then the North Sea 15–21 days
Clearance in Rotterdam Import declaration and the relief permit or payment of tax 2–3 working days
Delivery inside the Netherlands From the port to the address, with unloading 1–2 days

Not everything that leaves Jeddah is a full container. Ten cartons travel in a container shared by several shippers, a car boards its own kind of vessel, and a commercial sample goes ahead of them all by plane. So the time follows the method:

Method Route Time from Jeddah Suits
Full container Jeddah Islamic Port → Rotterdam 25–33 days A whole house and wholesale goods
Part-load sea freight A shared container sorted in a warehouse near Rotterdam 30–38 days Under 15 cubic metres and a few pallets
RoRo for cars A car carrier to Rotterdam or a neighbouring port 25–33 days A car that runs under its own power
Air King Abdulaziz Airport → Schiphol 3–6 days Parcels, documents, samples and urgent baggage

What lengthens the time?

  • The Cape of Good Hope route: if the vessel sails round Africa and does not use Suez, its voyage is a week or two longer, so we find out the routing before booking on it.
  • The Dutch permit: a baggage container that berths before the relief permit is issued stays in the port and is charged storage.
  • Hajj season: Jeddah’s port, airport and roads are busier in the weeks of the season, so we book earlier.

Times for the other destinations are on the transit times page.

From Jeddah Islamic Port to Rotterdam

From Jeddah Islamic Port to Rotterdam

Both ends of this route are heavyweight ports. Jeddah Islamic Port is the Kingdom’s largest port on the Red Sea and the nearest to the Suez Canal, and Rotterdam is Europe’s largest port and its gateway to the River Rhine. A vessel leaving Jeddah heads straight north, passes through the canal after about two days, then crosses the Mediterranean from east to west, and leaves by Gibraltar to climb along the coasts of Portugal and France until it enters the North Sea.

Because the major container lines between Asia and northern Europe pass through the Red Sea, Jeddah has frequent sailings towards Rotterdam, some direct and some changing vessel at a Mediterranean port. We choose the sailing by the container cut-off date and the arrival date together, and we book the space before the loading day, so the container enters the port and boards the vessel without sitting in the yard for days. A 20ft container is enough for a flat of two or three rooms or for ten pallets, and a 40ft container takes roughly double that.

What happens to the container inside the port, from the gate to the quay, is covered in the article international sea freight from Jeddah, and the service itself has its own sea freight page.

Shipping prices from Jeddah to the Netherlands

The price on this route follows the unit of measure, not the distance. A parcel and a suitcase are charged by the kilogram, cartons and furniture by the cubic metre, a whole house by the container, and a car by its class. A Jeddah invoice is simpler than one from the inland cities, because the item for haulage to the port or airport all but disappears from it. These are the figures our services start from:

What you ship Method Price starts from
Parcels, suitcases and samples Air from King Abdulaziz Airport SAR 23 per kilogram
Documents up to one kilogram Express SAR 83
Furniture and baggage Part-load sea freight SAR 5,500
Full household furniture Full container SAR 11,000
Saloon car RoRo from Jeddah Islamic Port SAR 2,800
4×4 or large car RoRo or container Priced by its size
Dates and goods on pallets Part load or container Set by the number of pallets

An example of the air calculation: a gift parcel with a chargeable weight of 5 kg costs 5 × 23, that is from SAR 115. Once the cartons number more than eight, the sea part load becomes clearly cheaper.

The prices circulating in the market for this route cover a wide span. A small air parcel of up to 5 kg is offered at between SAR 350 and 450, express couriers publish it to Europe at between SAR 230 and 500. Air goods of 5 to 20 kg are quoted at between SAR 600 and 1,800. By sea, SAR 1,500 circulates as a starting point for part quantities above 50 kg, SAR 4,000 for the small container, and between SAR 12,000 and 20,000 for the large container. On the European side, the sea freight alone is published at between 1,200 and 3,000 euros for a 20ft container and between 150 and 300 euros per cubic metre. The gap comes from the fact that some figures end at the port and some at the front door.

What sets the price Its effect on a Jeddah shipment
Volume or weight Cubic metre by sea, and chargeable weight by air. Estimate it with the volume calculator
Scope of service To the quay in Rotterdam, or into the room with clearance and unloading
Your customs status A permit holder pays no tax; others add 21% on top of the freight
Consignee’s address The Netherlands is small, so the difference between one city and another is limited
Access to the house Hoisting through the window is a separate item in houses with narrow stairs

How do you lower the cost?

  • Obtain the relief permit before loading; it saves 21% of the value of all your furniture.
  • Ship as a part load if you have under 15 cubic metres, and do not book a container that is half empty.
  • Sell in Jeddah whatever will not go up the stairs of the Dutch house, and buy its replacement there.
  • For traders: standardise the pallet size, since an over-height pallet is charged as the space of two.

Each factor is explained on the pricing factors page. For anyone who wants the bare container rate from the quay in Jeddah, there is the article container shipping prices from Jeddah.

Jeddah, the city of the port and the airport: what is different?

Whoever ships from Jeddah has what no other shipper in the Kingdom has: the port from which vessels sail to Europe and the international airport in the same city. That changes two practical things. The container stands in front of your house and is sealed in front of you, and its contents are not moved from one truck to another. The vessel’s cut-off can be met on the same day.

  • Truck movement: their entry to some Jeddah roads is regulated by hours, so we set the time the container stands according to the rules in force on loading day.
  • Humidity: Jeddah’s air is humid and hot, so no carton is closed on damp fabric or wood, and we place desiccant bags inside the container.
  • The old districts: the alleys of Al-Balad and around it cannot take a container, so a small vehicle shuttles the items to the loading point.
  • Umrah and Hajj pilgrims’ baggage: someone coming from the Netherlands for Umrah ships what they bought in Jeddah instead of paying excess weight at the airport.

The rest of what we offer in the city is in the article international shipping companies in Jeddah.

Full container or part load?

One number settles the question: how many cubic metres do you have? Under 15 the part load is cheaper, because you pay for your own space alone. Above that the part-load charge approaches the charge for a 20ft container, so your own container becomes better because it is sealed in Jeddah and opened only at your address. Traders make a similar calculation by the number of pallets:

Comparison Full container Part load
You pay for The whole container The cubic metres or pallets you occupy
Time from Jeddah 25–33 days 30–38 days
Handling One loading and one unloading Consolidation in a Jeddah warehouse and sorting in a Dutch one
Best for A house of three rooms or more, or ten pallets Cartons, a room or two, and a few pallets
Price starts from SAR 11,000 SAR 5,500

The internal dimensions and the pallet count for each type are on the container sizes page.

Shipping furniture and household goods from Jeddah to the Netherlands, and transfer-of-residence relief

The furniture of Jeddah homes was made for spacious rooms and wide doors, and Dutch houses are built the opposite way: narrow fronts, very steep stairs and small rooms. That is why we open the survey with a question about the Dutch house before we measure the Jeddah furniture. Whatever will not go up the stairs is hoisted there through the window with a furniture lift, a well-known Dutch custom, but a wardrobe that neither comes apart nor fits through the window is not worth its freight.

  • The survey: a visit or a video call in which we list the pieces and their sizes and ask you about the floor and the type of building in the Netherlands.
  • Dismantling and packing: beds and wardrobes are taken down into numbered panels, and wood is wrapped in blankets and corrugated paper that lets it breathe.
  • What is left behind: air conditioners are not needed in most Dutch homes, and long majlis seating finds no wall to take it.

Financially, the most important point is the relief. Anyone moving their residence to the Netherlands brings in used belongings and furniture with no duty and no tax, but Dutch Customs requires a permit that is requested from it before the shipment arrives. These are its conditions in current practice, and we review the ones in force with you before loading:

Condition Detail
Previous residence At least 12 months outside the European Union
Ownership and use 6 months before the move, so new items in their boxes fall outside the relief
Deadline for entry Within 12 months of the date of the move
After entry The belongings are not sold, lent or hired out for 12 months
Registration of residence Proof of registration at the city’s municipality, or the employment or housing contract for anyone not yet registered
The permit Issued by Dutch Customs and attached to the import declaration

The order we advise: the permit file first, then loading from Jeddah. The sailing is about three weeks, which is enough time for the permit to be issued if its application was submitted before the cut-off. The service is detailed on the furniture shipping page.

Shipping electrical and electronic appliances

Appliances are what owners hesitate most over shipping, and the decision is technical before it is financial. The voltage in the Netherlands is 230 volts, and most modern appliances in the Kingdom run on it. The difference lies in two things: the Dutch socket has two round pins, and the grid frequency is 50 hertz, not 60. So a television, a computer and a charger work with only a change of plug, whereas for an appliance with a motor or a compressor the label is read first.

  • Ship: screens, computers, small kitchen appliances and anything marked 50/60 hertz.
  • Check: the washing machine, fridge and dryer, as some are designed for 60 hertz alone.

The way to pack each item is in the packing guide.

Shipping parcels, suitcases and student baggage

A parcel leaving Jeddah for the Netherlands is usually one of three things: a gift for a relative, the purchases of a returning Umrah pilgrim, or the cartons of a student starting a term in Delft, Groningen or Eindhoven. All of them travel by air if they are light, and switch to the shared container when their number grows. Student rooms in the Netherlands are small and mostly furnished, so what is worth shipping is less than the student thinks.

  • Price: starts from SAR 23 per kilogram on the chargeable weight, and from SAR 83 for documents.
  • Gifts: a parcel sent by one private person to another is exempt in the European Union as long as its value stays within 45 euros under current practice, and beyond that the tax is collected from the consignee. We check the limit before sending.
  • Student baggage: books, clothes and room items are exempt with the admission or enrolment letter and the passport.
  • Do not put in the parcel: ghee, cheese or dried meat, or a medicine without its prescription. Dates, coffee and cardamom, on the other hand, are accepted in personal quantities in sealed packs.
  • The address: street name, house number and the postcode of four digits and two letters, with the consignee’s mobile number.

How to prepare a parcel is on the parcel shipping page.

Shipping commercial goods and dates from Jeddah to the Netherlands

Shipping commercial goods and dates from Jeddah to the Netherlands

The Netherlands is one of the largest distribution centres in Europe, and many importers there do not sell only inside it but distribute from it to Germany, Belgium and France. That is why Jeddah’s exporters head for it with dates in particular: Jeddah is the outlet to the sea for the dates of Madinah, and the seasons of European demand for them are known ahead of Ramadan. Commercial goods enter in the name of a Dutch importer holding a European economic operator number, and with an import declaration lodged before the vessel berths.

Item Shipping method What it needs in the Netherlands
Dates and date products Pallets in a dry container, or refrigerated for the moist varieties A label in Dutch with the importer’s name, a certificate of origin, and compliance with pesticide residue limits
Foods of animal origin Refrigerated container An EU-approved establishment and a veterinary certificate, with entry through a border control post
Perfumes and cosmetics Sea, and air under the limits on flammable materials A responsible person inside the European Union and a product notification
Appliances and consumer products Sea or air The European conformity mark and its technical file
Samples and exhibition items Air A sample invoice, or a temporary admission carnet for what will return

Here packing is half of acceptance. The pallet is wrapped in tight stretch film with reinforced corners, and its number, carton count and weight are labelled on it, with the same figures written in the packing list. The pallet timber must be heat-treated and carry the ISPM 15 stamp, otherwise the shipment is turned back or treated at the owner’s expense. In current European practice dates are among the fruits exempt from the phytosanitary certificate, and we confirm that with the importer before every shipment. On the Saudi side we issue the export declaration and obtain the certificate of origin.

  • Tax: 21% on most goods, and a reduced rate of 9% on foodstuffs.
  • Deferring the tax: an importer registered in the Netherlands records it in the tax return instead of paying it in cash at the port.

The details are on the commercial shipping page.

Car shipping from Jeddah to the Netherlands

A car in Jeddah reaches the port on its own wheels in under an hour, which spares it the car transporter that a car from the inland cities needs. It is handed over in the export yard after its plates are surrendered and the export certificate is issued, and then ships in one of two ways. The hard part starts after berthing: three financial and technical stops before it carries a Dutch plate.

Comparison RoRo Container
How it ships Driven into the vessel’s hold and lashed by its wheels Secured with straps and timber chocks inside a sealed container
What may be left inside Nothing but the spare wheel and its tools Baggage with the car in a 40ft container
Suits An ordinary running car Luxury and classic cars and those with a non-running engine
Arrival port Rotterdam or a neighbouring port, depending on the vessel’s line Rotterdam
Price starts from SAR 2,800 for a saloon Set on request

In the Netherlands a 10% customs duty is paid on the value of the car plus its freight, then 21% value added tax on the total, then a registration tax calculated on the engine’s emissions, which rises steeply with the large engines common in the Kingdom. A Gulf-specification car goes through an individual inspection at the Dutch vehicle authority before its plates are issued. For someone moving residence, the car comes in under their permit if they have owned and used it for six months. The registration tax may exceed the freight itself, so we work it out with you and review the rules in force before booking. The methods are on the RoRo car shipping and container car shipping pages, and the general conditions are in the article car shipping from Saudi Arabia.

Dutch customs and the documents required

The Netherlands is a member of the European Union, so the tariff applied in Rotterdam is the common European tariff, and goods cleared there then move freely between the Union’s countries. The rule: a duty according to the item’s tariff heading, and 21% value added tax calculated on the value plus the freight and insurance, except for what enters under a relief. This is the file for each kind of shipment:

Type of shipment Documents Note
Furniture and baggage of someone moving residence Passport, relief permit, proof of registration of residence, contents list in English or Dutch, and bill of lading The name on the bill as in the passport
Student baggage Passport and study residence permit, admission letter, and contents list The accommodation address and postcode in full
Commercial goods A commercial invoice with a packing list, the bill of lading, a certificate of origin, and the European customs number of the Dutch importer Additional certificates for foodstuffs and perfumes
Car The Saudi registration card with the export certificate, the passport and the purchase invoice; a relief applicant adds proof of having owned the car for six months The registration tax is worked out before shipping

In Jeddah less is required: we issue the export declaration ourselves, and a resident who is leaving for good gives us a copy of the final exit visa if it is needed. What each document means is on the shipping documents page, and how release works is on the customs clearance page.

What cannot be shipped to the Netherlands or needs a permit

What most often stops individuals’ shipments at Dutch Customs is nothing dangerous, but food from home: a tin of ghee, some cheese, or dried meat in the kitchen carton. Foods of animal origin coming from outside the European Union are banned in baggage, however small the amount. We go through the list with you on survey day, and these are its main entries:

Item Ruling
Meat, dairy, ghee and cheeses Banned in personal baggage and parcels
Plants, seeds and soil With a phytosanitary certificate
Medicines A personal-use quantity with a prescription, and some kinds need authorisation
Weapons, their ammunition and prohibited knives Banned without a Dutch licence
Ivory, coral and skins of protected animals Banned without the international convention certificate
Counterfeit goods Seized and destroyed
Tobacco and alcohol Outside the relief, and subject to special duties
Cash, gold and original documents Carried by hand, and cash is declared from ten thousand euros

The full list sits on the prohibited items page. If an item leaves you in doubt, send us its photo before it is packed.

Delivery in Rotterdam, Eindhoven, Groningen and the other cities

Delivery in Rotterdam, Eindhoven and Groningen

The Netherlands is a small country in area, and that works in the consignee’s favour: between the quay in Rotterdam and its farthest city there are about three hours by truck. After release, our agent fixes a day and an hour with the consignee, and the shipment is then moved to the address. Rotterdam itself is delivered on the day of release or the next, Eindhoven in the south is the city of technology companies and their university, and Groningen in the far north is a student city through and through.

City Distance from the Port of Rotterdam Delivery note
Rotterdam The port city Modern buildings with lifts in most of its districts
The Hague and Delft About 25 km Embassies, international organisations and Delft’s university
Breda About 50 km On the road to Belgium
Utrecht About 60 km The centre of the country, with narrow old streets
Amsterdam About 80 km The canal houses cannot take a container truck, so items are moved by a smaller vehicle
Eindhoven About 110 km Delivery the day after release
Groningen and its surroundings About 250 km A day is added, and most of its shipments are for student housing

Delivery with us does not mean leaving cartons on the pavement. The team takes each piece into its room, assembles what was dismantled in Jeddah and takes away the packing waste. When booking, state the floor number and whether the building has a lift, since many Dutch houses have their furniture hoisted through the window, and the truck’s parking space is booked from the municipality days ahead. The destination network is on the shipping destinations page.

Services for individuals, companies, government bodies and embassies

The shipment looks the same, but what its owner expects differs. A family wants someone to carry the whole worry of the move for them. A company wants a fixed date and orderly paperwork. An official body wants a procedure that protects the shipment’s status and confidentiality. That is why we do not deliver the service from a single mould:

Customer What they need What we provide
Individuals and families Moving a house or baggage without daily follow-up A survey, an itemised price, and one coordinator until delivery
Companies and factories Repeat shipments and complete export documents A periodic contract, a tax invoice, and a report on every shipment
Government bodies Exhibits, delegations and printed matter Keeping to the event date, and returning what comes back afterwards
Embassies and consulates Baggage of transferred staff and correspondence Coordination with the administrative section, and sealed envelopes with their own tracking number

Air freight from Jeddah to the Netherlands

Air freight from Jeddah to the Netherlands

King Abdulaziz Airport in the north of Jeddah is the exit point of every air shipment, and Schiphol Airport near Amsterdam is its arrival point, one of the largest cargo airports in Europe. Between the two cities there are direct flights several times a week, and daily flights with one stop. The shipment is weighed in the cargo building, security-screened and then loaded, and the door-to-door time is 3 to 6 days.

  • For whom: commercial samples and urgent goods, parcels and documents, spare parts, and students’ suitcases.
  • Calculation: we weigh the carton and work out its volume (length × width × height in centimetres ÷ 6000), and take the larger figure. The volumetric weight calculator gives you the result before you call.
  • Price: starts from SAR 23 per kilogram and falls as the weight rises, and from SAR 83 for documents.
  • What is not accepted: loose lithium batteries, pressurised containers, and flammable liquids, including perfumes in quantity.

The service is detailed on the air freight page, and our office in the city is in the article air freight office in Jeddah.

Express and standard shipping: what is the difference?

Many people mix up two questions: air or sea, and express or standard. The first is about the means, and the second about the order of priority within it. Air itself has two grades: express, which leaves on the first flight, and standard, which waits for a cheaper consolidated flight. Sea is the standard choice for everything measured in cubic metres. This is the comparison from Jeddah:

Comparison Express air Standard air Sea
Time to the door Two to 4 working days 3–6 days 25–38 days
Unit of charge The kilogram at a higher rate The kilogram on chargeable weight The cubic metre or the container
Best for Documents and samples with a deadline Parcels, suitcases and spare parts Furniture, cars, goods and pallets
Price starts from SAR 83 for documents SAR 23 per kilogram SAR 5,500 for a part load

As for the land route, we do not rely on it to the Netherlands, because it crosses many countries with a document and a wait at every border. The full comparison is on the shipping methods comparison page.

Preparing for shipping: packing, weight and documents

Three things done before loading day decide how the whole journey goes. Packing protects the shipment from Jeddah’s humidity and then from the cold of the North Sea, with weeks in between inside a metal container that heats up by day and cools by night, so vapour condenses on what is in it. Accurate measuring prevents a surprise on the invoice, and complete documents prevent the shipment standing in the port.

  • Packing: double-wall cartons for heavy items, foam and corners for glass and mirrors, crates of treated timber for ornaments, and desiccant bags between the furniture.
  • Weight and dimensions: we measure each carton after it is closed, not before, and write the figure on the list. Estimate your chargeable weight in advance with the calculator.
  • The list: written in English with clear names and true second-hand values, since the phrase “household items” invites opening.
  • Documents: your passport, residence permit and relief permit for your baggage, and the invoice and certificate of origin for your goods.

How the load is secured inside the container is on the packing and lashing page.

Collection from Jeddah’s districts and nearby towns

We send the team to any district in Jeddah, from Obhur in the north to Al-Khumrah in the south, and collect from villas, flats, warehouses and hotels. The surrounding towns are added to the Jeddah run because its port and airport are the nearest to all of them. From one place to another it is the form of loading that changes, not the service:

Place Distance from Jeddah How we collect
North Jeddah: Obhur, Al-Shati, Al-Mohammadiyah, Al-Zahra and Al-Rawdah Inside the city The container usually stands in front of the villa, and compounds need an entry permit
Central Jeddah: Al-Balad, Al-Hamra, Al-Andalus and Al-Aziziyah Inside the city Loading in the early morning, and a small vehicle for the alleys
East and south Jeddah: Al-Naseem, Al-Samer, Al-Sanabel and Al-Khumrah Inside the city The nearest to the warehouses and the port gates
Makkah About 80 km By an appointment that respects truck entry hours, and Umrah pilgrims’ baggage from hotels
Thuwal and King Abdullah Economic City 80–100 km Researchers’ baggage and factory goods by prior appointment
Taif About 170 km Brought to the Jeddah warehouse a day ahead

Send your location and photos of the items, and we set the size of the vehicle and the number of workers. The other cities are on the service cities page.

Steps for shipping from Jeddah to the Netherlands

  1. The request: tell us what is being shipped, which Jeddah district it leaves from, and the Dutch town with its postcode.
  2. Establishing your status: moving residence, student, trader, or gift sender. The customs file is built on it.
  3. Survey and price: once the volume is estimated we propose sea or air, and you get a price split into its separate items.
  4. The Netherlands file: the relief permit for baggage, or the importer’s details and certificates for goods.
  5. Loading: dismantling, packing and numbering, then the container is sealed in front of you and you sign the inventory report.
  6. Port or airport: the export declaration, then the vessel from Jeddah Islamic Port or the aircraft from King Abdulaziz Airport.
  7. Follow-up: the container or waybill number, and a message at every stop as far as Rotterdam.
  8. Release and delivery: our Dutch agent clears the shipment and settles a day with you; the team then unloads, assembles and has you sign for it.

Tracking the shipment and insuring it

A customer’s questions after loading are two: where is my shipment now, and what if something is damaged? The answer to the first is a number, and to the second a policy. A container leaving Jeddah is logged on the shipping line’s website at every port it passes, and we translate those movements for you into messages that make sense. Insurance is an optional item, because the sea carrier’s compensation is limited and does not come near the value of a household or a consignment.

  • Sea tracking: by the container number or the bill of lading. The method is on the track your shipment page.
  • Our messages: on entering the port, sailing, passing Suez, berthing in Rotterdam, release, and fixing the delivery day.
  • If something is damaged: write your remark on the delivery receipt before the team leaves and photograph the piece as you found it, and we attach its photos from packing day in Jeddah. The remaining terms are on the cargo insurance page.

Payment methods and customer service

Payment is agreed on the booking day and written into the contract: how much is paid at loading and how much on arrival. We do not ask for a transfer to a personal account, and every amount is matched by a receipt. These are the methods available:

Payment method Suits Note
Bank transfer Containers and company shipments To the establishment’s account, with the slip sent by WhatsApp
Bank card or electronic payment Parcels and air shipments Immediate confirmation of the booking
Cash on collection from the home Parcels and small amounts of baggage Against a stamped receipt from the team
Digital wallets Small amounts Where available, and we confirm them at booking

Customer service with us is a person, not a ticket number. Whoever prices your shipment is the one who follows it, and answers the phone and WhatsApp from 7 am to 11 pm. You ask them about the method and the papers before shipping, and about where the shipment is afterwards. And if Dutch Customs holds the shipment with a question, they are the one who passes the question to you and sends the answer to the agent the same day.

Shipping from the Netherlands to Jeddah

The same route works in reverse, and its traffic from Rotterdam to Jeddah is active all year round. Jeddah’s traders import agricultural equipment, greenhouses, foodstuffs and spare parts from the Netherlands, returning families ship their furniture, and anyone buying from Dutch shops needs an address to receive on their behalf. Our agent collects from the supplier or the house, and gathers purchases from several sellers into one shipment.

  • By sea: from Rotterdam to Jeddah Islamic Port, cleared in the city itself with no inland haul.
  • By air: from Schiphol to King Abdulaziz Airport, and delivered in your district.
  • At Jeddah customs: the furniture and clothes a returnee has used are released as personal effects, anything new is charged its item duty and then 15% value added tax, and a trader’s goods that fall under the technical regulations are registered on the SABER platform before they ship.

For anyone heading to another European country there is the article shipping from Saudi Arabia to Europe.

Tips before shipping from Jeddah to the Netherlands

  • Choose the means by what you are shipping, not by what you hear: light and urgent by air, heavy and large by sea.
  • Ask the landlord of the Dutch house to measure the staircase and the window before you choose which furniture to ship.
  • Do not pack anything damp in Jeddah, as mould appears after three weeks in the container.
  • Weigh and measure after packing, and give us the real figures so we can give you a price that does not change.
  • Finish the registration of residence and the relief permit before the vessel arrives, not after.
  • Call the coordinator at any doubt, since a question before loading is cheaper than a correction after sailing.

How do you choose a shipping company from Jeddah to the Netherlands?

Shipping offices in Jeddah are many, and their quotes for the same shipment differ by thousands of riyals. The cheapest quote is not always the most economical, as it may have left out an item you will pay for in Rotterdam. Put these questions to whoever quotes you, and listen to the answer:

What you ask about A reassuring answer A worrying answer
Legal standing A commercial registration, a contract and a stamped receipt A mobile number and a transfer to a personal account
The Dutch relief Asks you about registration of residence and the permit before loading “Used goods carry no customs in Europe”
Time Separates the sailing days from the time to the door “Two weeks by sea to your front door”
The route Sea or air with their real times “By land within a week”
After Rotterdam A known agent, with unloading and assembly in the price “You collect it from the port”, said only after payment

Common mistakes when shipping from Jeddah to the Netherlands

  • The container sailing before the relief permit has been requested from Dutch Customs.
  • Shipping a car with a large engine without working out the Dutch registration tax.
  • Putting baggage inside a RoRo car, where it is refused or lost.
  • Shipping a wardrobe or majlis that fits neither the staircase of the Dutch house nor its window.
  • Packing commercial dates with an Arabic-only label, or on pallets of unstamped timber.
  • Hiding that the final destination is a country other than the Netherlands, which makes the document wrong.
  • Comparing a price that ends at the quay in Rotterdam with one that reaches inside the room.

Frequently asked questions about shipping from Jeddah to the Netherlands

How much does shipping from Jeddah to the Netherlands cost?

An air kilogram from King Abdulaziz Airport starts from SAR 23, and express documents from SAR 83. By sea, part-load furniture starts from SAR 5,500, a full-house container from SAR 11,000, and a saloon on a RoRo vessel from SAR 2,800. Photograph your items and send them with the name of the Dutch city to 0552803439.

How many days does a shipment need from Jeddah to reach the Netherlands?

An air parcel reaches the consignee’s door after 3 to 6 days. A full container normally needs 25 to 33 days, 15 to 21 of which go on the sailing between Jeddah and Rotterdam. A part load takes 30 to 38 days, because the shared container is not closed until it fills up and its contents are then sorted in a Dutch warehouse.

Why does the container go to Rotterdam in particular?

Because it is Europe’s largest port and a fixed stop on the container lines coming up from the Red Sea, so it has more sailings than any other Dutch port. From there a truck reaches the farthest city in the Netherlands in about three hours. Some sailings reach it directly and some change vessel at an intermediate port, and we tell you which kind it is on the booking day.

Is customs duty charged on my used furniture in the Netherlands?

Anyone moving their residence to the Netherlands pays neither duty nor tax on used belongings, provided they obtain the relief permit from Dutch Customs before the container berths. In current practice: a year of residence outside the European Union, six months of ownership and use, and bringing the belongings in within a year of the move. Anyone who does not meet the conditions pays 21% value added tax and a duty by item.

What do I need to apply for the Dutch relief permit?

A passport, a list of contents, proof that you lived outside the European Union for at least a year, such as the Saudi residence permit and employment contract, and proof of your registration at the municipality of the Dutch city you will live in. Anyone not yet registered submits their employment or housing contract there.

Do you ship dates from Jeddah to the Netherlands?

Yes, personal quantities in parcels and commercial quantities on pallets inside containers. In current European practice dates are among the few fruits for which no phytosanitary certificate is required, but a commercial shipment needs a registered Dutch importer, a label in Dutch, an invoice and a certificate of origin. We check the rules in force with the importer before packing.

Do you ship a car from Jeddah to the Netherlands?

Yes. The car enters Jeddah Islamic Port and ships by RoRo or inside a container to Rotterdam or a neighbouring port, depending on the vessel’s line. RoRo starts from SAR 2,800 for a saloon. In the Netherlands a 10% duty and 21% tax are paid, then a registration tax calculated on emissions, except for a car that comes in under transfer-of-residence relief.

What is the difference between express and standard shipping to the Netherlands?

Express is a parcel or document that leaves on the first flight and is delivered in two to four working days at a higher rate. Standard air waits for a consolidated flight and arrives in 3 to 6 days at the lowest kilogram rate. Sea is the standard choice for furniture and heavy goods; it takes weeks and costs the least per cubic metre.

Do you deliver to Eindhoven and Groningen, or only to Rotterdam?

We deliver to every city. Eindhoven is about 110 km from the port and its shipment is delivered the day after release, and Groningen in the far north is about 250 km away and adds a day. We also deliver to Amsterdam, The Hague, Utrecht and Breda.

Will my electrical appliances work in the Netherlands?

The voltage there is 230 volts, as with most modern appliances in the Kingdom. Two things differ: the Dutch socket has two round pins, so the plug must be changed or an adaptor used, and the frequency is 50 hertz instead of 60. So read the label on the washing machine, the fridge and every appliance with a motor; if it says 50/60 hertz, ship it with confidence.

Which items are refused in shipments bound for the Netherlands?

Meat and dairy and their products coming from outside the European Union, plants and seeds without a certificate, counterfeits, medicines without a prescription, and products of protected animals. Tobacco and alcohol fall outside any relief. Cash, gold and original documents do not go in the cartons at all; their place is the hand luggage.

How do I follow my shipment after it leaves Jeddah?

You receive the container number and the bill of lading number once it is loaded on the vessel, and with them you see its position on the shipping line’s website. An air shipment is followed by its air waybill number. We also send you a WhatsApp message at every stop until the delivery appointment.

What payment methods are available?

A bank transfer to the establishment’s account, electronic payment by card, or cash against a stamped receipt when the shipment is collected from your home. Companies are issued a tax invoice. We do not ask for a transfer to a personal account.

Is insurance included in the shipping price?

No. Insurance is a separate item that you choose, calculated as a percentage of the value declared in the contents list. We consider it necessary for a car, for full household furniture and for commercial goods, because the sea carrier’s liability for the container is limited and does not cover the value of what is inside it.

Do you ship from the Netherlands to Jeddah?

Yes. Our agent in the Netherlands collects from the house, the warehouse or the shop, and the goods ship by sea from Rotterdam to Jeddah Islamic Port or by air from Schiphol to King Abdulaziz Airport. They are cleared in Jeddah and delivered in your district.
