Who ships a car from Riyadh?
Four groups call our car desk every week. The first is families and employees moving to work in a Gulf state who want their car with them. The second is dealers who buy at the capital’s auctions and export to markets in Africa and Asia. The third is students on scholarships and people returning to their home countries. The fourth is companies moving a fleet or selling off the vehicles of a finished project.
| Customer | What they usually ship | What we arrange |
|---|---|---|
| A family moving to the Gulf | One or two daily-use cars | A shared road carrier and collection from home |
| An auction dealer | Weekly or monthly batches | Collection from the yard, and a full carrier or containers |
| A student or someone moving to Europe | Their own car | Container or RoRo, and a review of registration rules |
| A resident going home | A car with luggage | A private container holding the car and the belongings |
| The owner of a luxury or classic car | A high-value car | An enclosed carrier, a container or air freight |
| A company or contractor | A fleet, trucks, equipment | A contract, a schedule and one coordinator |
What is different about shipping cars from Riyadh?
Riyadh is the largest car market in the Kingdom. It has weekly auctions showing hundreds of vehicles, showrooms stretching across the east and south of the city, and company fleets sold when their contracts end. So buyers come to it from inside the Kingdom and abroad, and a large share of export journeys start here.
Its position in the middle of the peninsula cuts two ways. On one side it is close to all the Gulf crossings: Manama is about 480 km away, Doha 580 km, Kuwait 650 to 700 km and Abu Dhabi 850 km. Carriers leave it daily and the road price from it is lower than from the western cities. On the other side it has no port, so every car travelling by sea first covers a road stage to Jeddah or Dammam.
Another of its features is that long trucks do not enter its districts at all hours. The traffic department sets hours for truck entry that change in Ramadan and in the seasons, so we do not send an eight-car carrier into a residential street. We collect the car on a small flatbed and take it to the loading yard on the edge of the city, where it goes up onto its carrier.
Car shipping destinations from Riyadh: method, time and price
The destination decides the method. Wherever an open road links the Kingdom, we ship by carrier; what lies across the sea goes by RoRo or container from the port. The table gathers the destinations we serve from Riyadh, the starting price for a saloon, and a link to the detailed page for each route.
| Destination | Method | Usual time | Price starts from |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bahrain | Road carrier over the King Fahd Causeway | 1–4 days | SAR 830 |
| Qatar | Road carrier via Salwa | 1–4 days | SAR 1,100 |
| Jordan | Road carrier via Haditha | 3–7 days | SAR 1,290 |
| Kuwait | Road carrier via Raqai or Khafji | 2–5 days | SAR 1,380 |
| UAE | Road carrier via Batha | 2–4 days | SAR 1,650 |
| Iraq | Road carrier via Jadidat Arar | 4–7 days | SAR 2,300 |
| Oman | Road carrier via the Empty Quarter crossing | 3–7 days | SAR 2,950 |
| Turkey | RoRo or container to Mersin | 3–4 weeks | SAR 2,800 by RoRo from the port |
| United Kingdom | RoRo or container | 4–6 weeks | SAR 2,800 by RoRo from the port |
| France, Belgium, Spain and the rest of Europe | RoRo or container to a European port | 4–6 weeks | SAR 2,800 by RoRo from the port |
| Morocco | RoRo or container | 3–5 weeks | SAR 2,800 by RoRo from the port |
| Algeria | Container or RoRo | 3–5 weeks | SAR 1,655 sea fare for a small car |
| Libya | Container or RoRo | 18–35 days | SAR 3,220 |
| Tunisia | Container to Rades | 20–35 days | SAR 5,335 |
| Benin, Ivory Coast, Mauritania and West Africa | RoRo or container with transhipment | 5–8 weeks | Set on request |
| Egypt, Sudan, East Africa, Asia, the Americas and Australia | RoRo or container | 1–8 weeks | Set on request |
The sea times in the table are counted from the vessel’s sailing; moving the car from Riyadh to the port and the days waiting for the sailing are added. The sea prices are a port-to-port fare, while the Riyadh–port stage is priced by the type of car and flatbed. For the full picture of routes in the Kingdom, see the article on car shipping from Saudi Arabia.
Shipping cars by road from Riyadh to the Gulf and neighbouring countries
More than half of what we ship from Riyadh travels on the road. The carrier loads at a yard on the edge of the capital, then heads east to Manama and Doha, south-east to Abu Dhabi and Muscat, or north to Kuwait, Baghdad and Amman. The car passes no port and no ship, so there are only two clearances: exit at the Saudi crossing and entry at the one opposite.

| Destination | The carrier’s route from Riyadh | Saudi crossing and its counterpart |
|---|---|---|
| Bahrain | The Dammam road then Khobar, about 480 km | King Fahd Causeway |
| Qatar | Al-Ahsa then Salwa, about 580 km | Salwa ↔ Abu Samra |
| Kuwait | Hafar Al-Batin or Nairiyah, 650–700 km | Raqai ↔ Salmi, or Khafji ↔ Nuwaiseeb |
| UAE | Al-Kharj then Haradh, about 850 km to Abu Dhabi | Batha ↔ Al Ghuwaifat |
| Oman | Al-Kharj, Haradh, then the Empty Quarter | Empty Quarter crossing ↔ Ramlat Khaliya |
| Jordan | Qassim, Hail and Al-Jouf, about 1,450 km | Haditha ↔ Al-Omari |
| Iraq | Hafar Al-Batin, Rafha and Arar, about 1,550 km to Baghdad | Jadidat Arar |
We ship on three kinds of carrier, and choosing between them is a balance of cost, protection and timing:
| Carrier | Its load | Who it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Open multi-car transporter | Up to eight cars on two decks | The daily-use car and anyone wanting the lowest price |
| Enclosed | One or two cars in a sealed box | Luxury, sports and classic cars |
| Dedicated flatbed | One car, door to door | Anyone in a hurry or with a date that cannot move |
Whatever the carrier, the car is tied down by its four wheels with fabric straps that do not touch the rims, and the suspension stays free to absorb the vibration of the road. The driver checks the strap tension at every stop, because a strap slackens slightly after the first hundred kilometres. For goods on the same routes, there is the land freight page.
How long shipping a car from Riyadh takes, by method
The driving time itself is short: a carrier reaches most Gulf capitals from Riyadh in less than a day at the wheel. What makes the difference is the waiting: the shared carrier filling up, the hours at the crossing, and the vessel’s date in sea freight. So we give you the door-to-door time, not the road time alone.
| Method | Door-to-door time | Where the time goes |
|---|---|---|
| Shared road carrier to the Gulf | 1–5 days | Filling the load and the crossing |
| Dedicated flatbed to the Gulf | 1–2 days | The crossing only |
| Road to Jordan, Iraq and Oman | 3–7 days | The length of the road and clearance |
| RoRo to Turkey and the Mediterranean | 3–5 weeks | Transfer to the port, waiting for a vessel, sailing |
| RoRo or container to Europe and West Africa | 4–8 weeks | A long sailing and sometimes transhipment |
| Air | 2–6 days | Booking, preparation and clearance |
What lengthens the time?
- A traffic fine that appears on the day the export certificate is requested.
- The lender’s letter that has not yet been issued.
- Missing the port’s cut-off for receiving cars before the vessel sails.
- Congestion at the crossings before holidays and Eid.
- A chassis number that differs between the registration card and the car.
Car shipping prices from Riyadh
The price is calculated per car by destination, car size and carrier type, not by weight. The figures below are the starting point from Riyadh and include loading, securing and transport. The destination’s customs charges and the export plate fee are paid to their authorities and are not part of the fare.
| Destination | Saloon on a shared carrier | 4×4 or pickup | Enclosed carrier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bahrain | SAR 830 | SAR 1,200 | SAR 2,020 |
| Qatar | SAR 1,100 | SAR 1,750 | SAR 3,500 |
| UAE | SAR 1,650 | SAR 2,000 | SAR 2,750 |
| Jordan | SAR 1,290 | SAR 2,020 on a dedicated carrier | Set on request |
| Kuwait | SAR 1,380 | Set on request | Set on request |
| Iraq | SAR 2,300 | Set on request | Set on request |
| Oman | SAR 2,950 | Set on request | Set on request |
| Sea and air freight | Price starts from | Note |
|---|---|---|
| RoRo, saloon car | SAR 2,800 | Sea fare from Jeddah port to the port of arrival |
| 20ft container for one car to Turkey | SAR 4,600 | Sea fare from Jeddah port |
| 40ft container for two cars | SAR 5,200 | Sea fare to the nearer ports |
| A car to Libya | SAR 3,220 | Small car, RoRo or container |
| A car to Tunisia | SAR 5,335 | A 4×4 from SAR 5,980, and a luxury car in a private container from SAR 7,545 |
| Moving the car from Riyadh to the port | Set on request | By type of car and flatbed |
| A motorcycle, or a car that does not run | Set on request | By the method of securing and loading |
| Air freight from King Khalid Airport | Set on request | By weight, dimensions and flight |
Prices quoted in the market are far apart. We found car shipping to the UAE published at SAR 1,500 to 2,500, to Kuwait at SAR 1,300 to 2,200, and to Bahrain and Oman at SAR 1,200 to 2,000, and Riyadh–Qatar priced at SAR 2,000 to 3,000 on an open carrier and SAR 3,500 to 5,500 in an enclosed one. A general range of SAR 1,800 to 7,000 is mentioned, and a dedicated enclosed carrier from SAR 4,500. A Riyadh–Jeddah flatbed is quoted at SAR 1,000 to 1,200, insurance at SAR 100 to 300, and express delivery at an extra SAR 300 to 500. Some adverts open with a figure under a thousand that covers neither the crossing nor delivery, so always ask what the price includes.
What sets the price of shipping your car?
| Factor | Its effect on the bill |
|---|---|
| Destination and method | Gulf road is the lowest, then RoRo, then container, and air the highest |
| Car size | The space it takes is the basis of the charge on the carrier and in the ship |
| Carrier type | An enclosed carrier takes one or two cars, so each one’s share rises |
| Transfer to the port | A separate item in sea freight, following the flatbed and its distance |
| Number of cars | The batch price is lower than the single-car price |
| Condition of the car | One that does not run needs a winch and is excluded from RoRo |
| Insurance and season | The premium follows the declared value, and demand rises before summer |
How do you cut the cost?
- Book a week ahead of your date to catch a full shared carrier.
- Choose the open carrier for a daily car, and the enclosed one only for what deserves it.
- Put two cars in one 40ft container instead of two small containers.
- Finish the traffic department paperwork early, as delay at the port carries storage charges.
Sea freight for cars from Riyadh by RoRo and container
Every destination that no practical road reaches is served by sea, and you have two methods. RoRo is a ship built for vehicles: the car is driven up its ramp to the inside, uncovered as it is, and lashed on the inner deck. A container is a steel box the car enters, where it is secured by its wheels with straps and timber chocks, then closed and sealed until the port of arrival.

| Point of comparison | RoRo | Container |
|---|---|---|
| Loading method | Driven onto the ship | Placed in the container and tied by the wheels |
| Price | From SAR 2,800 for a saloon | From SAR 4,600 for a 20ft container to Turkey |
| Protection | Inside the ship, with no box of its own | A closed, sealed box |
| Accompanying belongings | Not allowed | Possible outside the cabin with a packing list |
| A car that does not run | Not accepted | Accepted and winched in |
| Suits | The ordinary running car, trucks and buses | Luxury and classic cars and a car with luggage |
The main port for Riyadh’s cars is Jeddah Islamic Port, because the Red Sea and Suez services towards Turkey, Europe and North Africa start from it. King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam is the alternative when a sailing from it suits the destination, and it is less than half the distance from Riyadh. We compare the two options for you by vessel dates at the time of booking. The technical details are on the RoRo car shipping and container car shipping pages.
How does your car get from Riyadh to the port?
The road stage to the port is the first test in sea freight from an inland city. The road to Jeddah is about 950 km and to Dammam about 400 km, and we do not cover them by driving the car itself unless the owner asks for that. The car is carried, so its odometer stays as recorded in the condition report.
| Means | How it works | When we choose it |
|---|---|---|
| Open flatbed or carrier | Carries the car, tied by its wheels, to the port yard | Ordinary cars heading for RoRo |
| Enclosed flatbed | Shields the car from the sun and stones of the road | Luxury, new and classic cars |
| Container train | The car is loaded into its container and cleared at Riyadh Dry Port, then the container travels by train to Dammam | Container shipping through Dammam port |
| Driven by an authorised driver | Our driver takes it with the odometer recorded before and after the trip | At the owner’s request for an ordinary car |
The stage ends in a fenced yard near the port, not in a street or a public car park. There the car is photographed a second time before it is handed to the shipping line, so you have two records: one at your door in Riyadh and one at the quay. The names of the ports and crossings we work from are on the ports and gateways page.
Types of vehicles we ship from Riyadh
Not every vehicle is handled the same way. An open carrier is enough for the family car, a low car needs a horizontal lift instead of a ramp, and an excavator needs a low-bed trailer and its own lashing calculation. The table sums up what suits each class.
| Vehicle | By road | By sea | What we watch for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saloon and hatchback | Shared open carrier | RoRo | Windows closed and mirrors folded |
| 4×4 and pickup | The carrier’s lower deck | RoRo, priced by dimensions | Overall height and the roof rack |
| Luxury and sports | Enclosed carrier with a horizontal lift | Private container | Front bumper clearance and a soft cover |
| Classic | Enclosed carrier | Private container | Oil leaks and the handbrake |
| Motorcycle | A chock holding the front wheel | A timber crate or inside a container | Straps on the handlebars and frame |
| A car that does not run | Winch flatbed | Container only | That the wheels turn and the steering responds |
| Trucks, buses and equipment | Low-bed trailer where needed | RoRo or a fitted flat rack | Dimensions, weight and lashing points |
Electric and hybrid cars are shipped by road and sea, but shipping lines and airlines have requirements on the battery’s state of charge and condition. We ask the carrier for its condition for each sailing or flight before we confirm your booking.
Car inspection, photo report and export paperwork in Riyadh
Before the car leaves the ground it goes through three steps at your door or in the showroom yard: a visual inspection, photographs, and a written condition report. The inspector walks round the car and records every existing scratch, dent and break, and photographs the sides, roof, cabin, rims, odometer reading and fuel level. The notes are then written into a report that you and the driver sign, and you take a copy of it on the spot.

This report is the only reference at delivery and in any insurance claim, which is why we ask for the car to be washed on collection day. For a car leaving an auction, we match its condition against the auction’s own report at the gate. The export paperwork starts at the traffic department, and the steps in practice are as follows; we confirm what is in force before the shipping date:
- Pay the fines recorded against the car and against your record, and check them on the Absher platform.
- Make sure the registration card is valid and in your name, and that the ownership transfer is complete if the car was bought recently from a showroom or an auction.
- Bring the lien release or no-objection letter if the car is financed.
- Submit the export request at the traffic department and hand in the Saudi plates and registration card.
- Pay the export plate fee, published as SAR 100.
- Collect the export certificate and export plates after the chassis number is matched.
- Send us a photo of the certificate with an authorisation, so that we issue the customs declaration before the car reaches the crossing or the port.
Export plates are temporary, and their purpose is to get the car to its exit point. So time the request with the carrier’s or the vessel’s date and do not ask for them weeks ahead. A resident attaches a passport and residence permit, and an establishment attaches an authorisation from the person with authority.
Required documents and customs clearance
The car’s file is small but it cannot be short of anything. One missing paper stops the carrier at the crossing or makes the car miss its vessel. We review the file with you before collection day and complete the export declaration and the destination’s clearance through brokers, so you do not need to come to the border or the port for a final export.
| Document | Who issues it | When it is required |
|---|---|---|
| Export certificate and export plates | Traffic department | For every final export |
| Copy of the registration card and the owner’s ID, or residence permit and passport | The owner | Always |
| Sale contract, purchase invoice or auction contract | The seller | For valuation at the destination’s customs |
| The consignee’s ID and address in the destination country | The consignee | Always |
| Clearance authorisation | The owner | Always |
| Lender’s letter | The bank or finance company | If the car is financed |
| Bill of lading or air waybill | The shipping line or airline | For sea and air |
| Insurance policy | The insurer | When cover is requested |
Each country has extra papers, such as a change-of-residence certificate for returnees or a certificate of conformity in Europe. The general list is on the shipping documents page, and how we work at the crossings on the customs clearance page.
Destination rules: check the car is accepted before you buy it
The most expensive mistake in exporting cars is to buy an excellent car for a destination that will not take it. Every country sets an age limit for a used car, some reject one damaged by a serious accident or flood, and some require emissions or conformity standards. The rules change, so the table shows what is applied or commonly reported, and we confirm what is in force for your particular car before booking.
| Destination | The rule applied or commonly reported |
|---|---|
| UAE | A used car over ten years old is mostly not registered; 5% duty and 5% VAT |
| Qatar | A light car for registration is no more than 5 years old |
| Kuwait | An age limit, commonly reported as five years for non-citizens |
| Oman | A private car over 7 years old is not registered |
| Jordan | A passenger car no older than 5 years, and an electric one 3 years |
| Iraq | A model-year limit and approved specifications, and damaged cars barred |
| Morocco | A used car over 5 years old is not cleared for good, with exceptions for Moroccans living abroad |
| Libya | Commonly reported as about 10 years, under decisions that change |
| UK and Europe | Duty and VAT unless transfer-of-residence relief applies, and a conformity test before registration |
| West Africa | Age limits that differ from country to country, and cargo tracking notes at some ports |
Send us the model, year of manufacture, fuel type and destination before you pay; we reply with what we found and its source, and we take no fee for this check.
Buying from Riyadh’s auctions and showrooms, then exporting
At an auction there is no going back once the car is knocked down to you. So our work with a dealer starts before the bidding, not after it. The dealer sends the details of the car to be bid on and its destination, and we reply whether it is accepted there, with an estimate of its landed cost. The dealer then knows the ceiling to bid to and can rely on the margin.
- Count the car as landed: the auction price, then transport, then shipping, then arrival charges. That is your real figure.
- Collection from the yard: we collect under your authorisation before the charges for keeping the car in the auction yard build up.
- Do not drive the car after buying it: carrying it from the gate keeps the odometer and condition as the auction report recorded them.
- Group, do not split: five cars in one trip are cheaper than five trips.
- A fixed schedule: a regular dealer has a weekly collection day, one coordinator and a list of chassis numbers for each batch.
A buyer living outside the Kingdom does not need to attend. We agree with the showroom the date for completing the ownership transfer and the export request, collect the car from its yard, and send the buyer the photos and the report before it moves.
Shipping company fleets, equipment and government vehicles
Riyadh is the city of head offices and projects, and its business sector ships differently from individuals. A company moves its cars between its Gulf branches, a contractor who has finished a project wants to sell trucks and equipment in a foreign market, and a government body or diplomatic mission moves its vehicles under official letters. These customers get a written contract, a schedule, one coordinator and invoices that suit a procurement department.
- Fleets: full carriers at a fixed price per car, and a condition report for every vehicle.
- Trucks and buses: they roll onto the RoRo vessel on their own wheels and are priced by their dimensions.
- Heavy equipment: cranes, excavators and generators on low-bed trailers or fitted flat racks, with a lashing calculation reviewed by a loading specialist.
- Government bodies and embassies: we prepare the file according to the competent authority’s letter and the exemption route it sets.
An example of this kind: a contractor has eight trucks and four machines after a project ends, and the choice is a local sale or export to an African market that wants them. We work out the landed cost of each unit including transport, shipping and charges, so the contractor compares the two figures and decides. If export is chosen, the units go to the port in scheduled batches. Details of this kind of work are on the heavy equipment shipping page.
Temporary entry on your Saudi plates, or a final export?
Not everyone who takes a car out of the Kingdom needs to drop its plates. Someone visiting a Gulf state or taking part in an event takes the car in on its plates and brings it back. Someone moving to live there or selling the car there goes by final export. Settling which case applies is the first question we ask, because the papers and the charges are entirely different.
| Item | Temporary entry | Final export |
|---|---|---|
| Plates | The Saudi ones stay | Export plates, then the destination’s plates |
| Destination charges | No duty, for a limited stay | Customs duty and tax according to the country |
| Age rule | Does not apply | Applies at registration |
| At the crossing | The owner or an authorised person attends | The broker completes it |
| Suits | A visit, an event, a race | Moving to live there, a sale |
Anyone travelling with a car beyond the Gulf and Jordan may be asked for a carnet de passages, which is a guarantee that the car will return. We tell you whether your destination asks for it before we fix the loading date.
Drive the car yourself, or ship it?
The roads from Riyadh to the Gulf capitals are fast dual carriageways, and many people cover them in their own cars. So when is shipping worth its fare? When the family is flying, when the car is on export plates, when it is too low to take a thousand kilometres, or when you have more than one car.
| Point of comparison | You drive it | You ship it |
|---|---|---|
| Cost | Fuel, a night’s stay and sometimes a return ticket | From SAR 830 depending on the destination |
| Your time | One to two days on the road and at the crossing | Minutes at handover and at delivery |
| Odometer and wear | Hundreds of kilometres added | The car does not move |
| A valuable car | Heat, stones and strain | Inside an enclosed carrier |
| More than one car | A driver for each | One carrier |
Preparing the car before handover: practical tips
Preparation needs no workshop and takes less than an hour. But it shortens the inspection and protects your position if a dispute arises.
- Wash it: a scratch does not show in photos under dust.
- Fuel: a quarter of a tank is enough for loading and unloading, and it is what shipping lines usually require.
- Empty the cabin and boot: and keep the spare wheel, jack and tool kit.
- Photograph it yourself: in daylight, with the odometer and chassis number.
- Switch off the alarm: and tell us if the car has an immobiliser device.
- Fix any leak: a car dripping oil may be refused by the shipping line.
- Accessories: remove the roof rack and long aerial, or tell us their height.
- Keys: hand over one key and keep the other.
Insurance and documentation: a chain of proof from your door to the destination
Four documents protect the car on its journey, and each closes a gap. The contract sets out what we agreed. The photographed condition report proves how the car was at collection, and is renewed at the port in sea freight. The bill of lading in your name or the consignee’s protects your right against the shipping line. And the insurance policy pays out at the value you declared.
Insurance is optional, but we advise it for every car worth more than its owner could bear to lose. Your Saudi motor policy does not cover the car while it is being carried outside the Kingdom, and it lapses once the plates are dropped. On arrival the car is checked against the report item by item before signing. The full terms are on the cargo insurance page.
Air freight for cars from Riyadh
The aircraft is the least used and most expensive method, but it is the answer when the date or the car allows nothing else. A luxury car that must stand in a show within days, a race car, or a rare car whose owner does not want it to pass through a port. It leaves the cargo village at King Khalid International Airport for airports in the Gulf, Europe and elsewhere that receive freighter aircraft.

The car is placed on a metal pallet and tied to it by the wheels, then the airport loader lifts it into the aircraft’s hold. The airline requires little fuel, may ask for the battery to be disconnected, and applies the dangerous goods rules to the car, so we follow what it sets for each flight. After landing and clearance, the car is taken in an enclosed carrier to the consignee’s address.
| Item | Air | Enclosed road carrier | Sea in a container |
|---|---|---|---|
| Total time | 2–6 days | 2–7 days | 3–8 weeks |
| Destinations | The Gulf, Europe and elsewhere | The Gulf, Jordan and Iraq | All ports |
| Price | Set on request | From SAR 2,020 | From SAR 4,600 from the port |
| Suits | The very urgent and high-value | A valuable car to neighbouring countries | A valuable car going overseas |
We say it as it is: to the Gulf states, the difference in time between the aircraft and a dedicated flatbed is small and the difference in cost is large. Air earns its price on distant destinations, where it cuts weeks at sea to days. For anything other than cars, there is the air freight page.
Collecting the car from Riyadh’s districts and governorates
We collect from any district in the capital and from the governorates of the region, and from a home, an office, a showroom or an auction yard. Inside the city a small flatbed arrives at the agreed time. From the governorates we bring the car to the loading yard, or the carrier picks it up on the way if it lies on its route.

Steps to ship your car from Riyadh
- Send to 0552803439 the car type and year of manufacture, its location in Riyadh, the destination, and whether the exit is temporary or final.
- We check that the destination accepts the car, and send the price with the options available and the nearest date.
- You complete the traffic department procedure for a final export, and we review the documents with you.
- We collect the car from your address or from the yard, inspect and photograph it, and hand you a copy of the report.
- It is taken to the loading yard, then to the land crossing, the port or the airport.
- We complete the export declaration, and the bill of lading or air waybill is issued for sea and air.
- You follow the journey with us, and we complete clearance in the destination country.
- The consignee receives the car, checks it against the report and then signs.
Tracking the car and delivery dates
In road freight a message reaches you at every stage: left the yard, reached the crossing, crossed, on its way to the consignee. You have the coordinator’s number from collection day. In sea freight we send the bill of lading number, the vessel’s name and its expected arrival date, and update the date if the shipping line’s schedule changes.
We do not promise a fixed sea arrival day, because ships are delayed in ports and at transhipment. We give you a time window and tell you of any change as soon as we know of it. Follow-up is explained on the shipment tracking page.
Shipping cars to Riyadh from abroad
The same routes work in the opposite direction. We collect the car from cities in the Gulf and Jordan and deliver it in Riyadh by road, or receive it at Jeddah or Dammam port and then take it by carrier to the capital. The procedure is reversed: an export certificate from the country of origin, then Saudi customs, inspection and registration.
The first thing we ask about on an import is the year of manufacture, since under the rule applied a light car built more than 5 years ago is not accepted. Then its history: whether it worked as a taxi or for a security body, and whether a serious accident or flood is recorded against it. Proof of its fuel economy is required, and 15% VAT is paid on it. We review all of that while the car is still with its seller.
How do you choose a car shipping company in Riyadh?
The capital’s market is full of people who own a flatbed and a phone number. The difference between a good domestic haulier and an export company shows at the first question about the destination country. Ask these questions before you hand over the key, and compare the answers with the table.
| Item | A reassuring sign | A worrying sign |
|---|---|---|
| Before buying | Asks about the year of manufacture and the destination | Says: buy it and we will sort it out |
| Price | Separates transport, shipping and arrival charges | One figure with no items |
| Documentation | A photographed condition report and a copy for you | Collection without a paper |
| The road to the port | A flatbed and a fenced yard | A driver who drives it and leaves it in a car park |
| Export | Reviews the traffic certificate and the lender’s letter | Puts the paperwork off until the crossing |
| The regular dealer | A collection schedule and a fixed coordinator | Every batch starts from scratch |
| The establishment | A commercial registration and a written contract | An account with no business name |

Frequently asked questions about shipping cars from Riyadh
How much does it cost to ship a car from Riyadh abroad?
The figure follows the destination first. By road: Bahrain from SAR 830, Qatar from SAR 1,100, Jordan from SAR 1,290, Kuwait from SAR 1,380, the UAE from SAR 1,650, Iraq from SAR 2,300 and Oman from SAR 2,950. By sea: the RoRo fare for a saloon starts from SAR 2,800 counted from Jeddah port, and moving the car from Riyadh to the port is added to it. Send the car type, its year of manufacture and the destination to 0552803439 and you will receive the full price.
Which countries do you ship cars to from Riyadh?
By road to the UAE, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Jordan and Iraq. By sea to Turkey, the UK and the countries of Europe, Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya and the countries of West and East Africa, and to Asia, the Americas and Australia depending on the shipping line available. By air to the airports that receive freighter aircraft in the Gulf, Europe and elsewhere.
Riyadh has no port, so how is the car shipped by sea?
It is moved to the port first. A car heading for RoRo is carried on a flatbed or carrier about 950 km to Jeddah Islamic Port, or about 400 km to Dammam port when a sailing from there suits the destination. A car shipped inside a container can be cleared at Riyadh Dry Port, and its container travels by train to Dammam.
I bought a car at an auction in Riyadh; what is the next step?
Send us a photo of the purchase contract and the car’s details. We arrange the collection time with the auction yard under your authorisation and write the condition report at the gate before the car moves, then start the ownership transfer and export request with you. It is better to ask us whether the destination accepts the car before you bid on it, not after the hammer falls.
What is needed from the traffic department before exporting the car for good?
An export certificate and export plates, both issued by the traffic department after the fines are paid and the Saudi plates and registration card are handed in. The published fee for the export plate is SAR 100. If the car is pledged to a lender, the request is not accepted before a letter from it releasing the lien or stating no objection.
Do you check that the destination accepts the car before I buy it?
Yes, and this service is free. You send the model, year of manufacture, fuel type and destination, and we review the rules in force there: the age limit, the steering side, the car’s status in its record and the conformity requirements. Many countries refuse to register a car beyond a certain age, and knowing that before paying protects you from a deal that cannot be exported.
What is the difference between RoRo and a container for shipping a car?
On RoRo the car is driven inside the ship uncovered and lashed on its inner deck; it is the cheapest and starts from SAR 2,800 for a saloon from the port. In a container the car enters a steel box, is secured by its wheels and the box is sealed; it suits luxury and classic cars and a car that does not run, and a 20ft container to Turkey starts from SAR 4,600.
How many days does shipping a car from Riyadh take?
By road, 1–4 days to Bahrain and Qatar, 2–5 days to the UAE and Kuwait, and 3–7 days to Oman, Jordan and Iraq. By sea, three to eight weeks depending on the port, plus two to four days to move the car to the port and wait for the vessel. By air, 2–6 days including booking and clearance.
Can I put my belongings inside the car?
On road carriers and RoRo, no. The car travels empty except for its spare wheel and original tool kit, because what is inside is not listed on the declaration and is not covered by insurance. In a private container, belongings can be shipped with the car, provided they are placed outside the cabin and written on the packing list.
Do you ship a car that does not run or is damaged?
We ship it if its wheels turn and the steering responds, and we winch it onto the flatbed. It travels by road or inside a container, and is not accepted on RoRo vessels because loading there is by driving. But note: several countries bar a car classed as damaged by a serious accident or flood, so we check that before any booking.
Do you have special prices for someone exporting several cars a month?
Yes. A dealer who buys from the auctions regularly gets a price for the batch, not for the single car: a full road carrier to the Gulf, or a 40ft container for two cars with a sea fare from SAR 5,200 from Jeddah port, with a fixed collection schedule from the yards and one coordinator who keeps your file.
Do you move trucks, buses and equipment from Riyadh?
Yes. Trucks and buses roll onto the RoRo vessel on their own wheels, and tracked equipment such as excavators is carried on low-bed trailers or fitted flat racks. Their price is set on request once the dimensions and weight are known, because the sea fare is calculated on the space they occupy.
Is the car insured during shipping?
We offer a transit insurance policy in which you state the car’s value, covering it from the moment of loading in Riyadh until delivery. For sea freight it is a marine policy that includes the road stage to the port. The reference for any claim is the photographed condition report that you sign with us before loading and keep a copy of.
Can a financed car or one registered to a company be shipped?
A financed car is exported for good only with a letter from the bank or finance company. A car registered to an establishment needs an authorisation signed by the person with authority in it, with a copy of the commercial registration. We review both papers with you before fixing the collection day, so the car does not stop at the traffic department or the crossing.
Do you ship cars from abroad to Riyadh?
Yes, by road from the Gulf states and Jordan, and by sea to Jeddah or Dammam port and then by carrier to Riyadh. The rule applied in the Kingdom is that an imported light car is no more than 5 years old and conforms to the approved specifications, so send the year of manufacture before you pay for it.
